The lawyer who shot himself proving his case

Clement Vallandighan, 19th Century lawyer accidentally shot himself while while trying to prove to the jury  the innocence of a defendant in a murder trial. “I have foolishly shot myself,” winced Clement Vallandigham. The client was acquitted. Clement won the case but he died.
