From India’s World T20 hero to DSP

Does anyone remember the man in the police uniform?

Yes, Joginder Sharma is the man in question whose medium paced delivery was scooped up in the air by Misbah-ul-Haq when Pakistan need just six runs off the last four balls in the inaugural World T20 event in South Africa which gave the Men in Blue a chance to stand on top of the world after 24 years.

These days the all-rounder from Haryana wears a ‘khaki’ instead of Indian Cricket Team’s quintessential blue and looks after the law and order of Haryana. After the World T20, Joginder was given a job with the Haryana Police. He rose through the ranks and is now Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Joginder never played another T20I after that historic final match but he was a regular member of the Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premier League (IPL). Joginder who quit domestic cricket last year played four ODIs and four T20Is for India. In first class cricket the all-rounder has scored 2689 runs and bagged 289 wickets.
